Why is Municipal Water Filtration so Crucial?

Every year cities and towns in the US spend millions of dollars on water filtration equipment, personnel to operate it, and the actual process of cleaning the water itself. You’ll have wondered just what it is that makes this so necessary. After all , our forefathers drank natural water from wells and streams and looked to do all right, didn’t they? That is, until some type of pandemic appeared to hit with regularity. They didn’t know what was causing the illnesses and attributed them to things such as the night air and watermelons. Little did they know that their drinking water was the guilty party. After all, it looked clear and pure, so what could potentially be wrong with it?

People are the biggest culprits when it comes to dirtying up our water sourcesand have created the need for municipal water filtration. Any place there are a lot of folks there is waste and waste and contamination that flows into the water. That is why it’s up to our tax dollars to address the situation to maintain public health, but is enough being done? Diseases passed through dangerous water, for example cholera, malaria, or yellow fever, have all but disappeared in America. However , more than 5,000,000 folk worldwide die each year due to water based illnesses or those spread by insects that breed near water, for example mosquitoes.

Providing clean, pure drinking water to every household isn’t a new idea , however , the new time in community water treatment commenced in the US with the Clean Water Act of 1972. At that point, every city in the country was required to have a water treatment plant. Although this sounds great, the intention wasn’t really to scrub up the water for human consumption. Decades of permitting commercial waste to be pumped into our lakes, streams, and rivers had left them filthy and contaminated, and the goal of water treatment was to wash them up. Even today, 2/3rds of America’s tap water continues to contain insecticides, industrial waste, pathogens, hormones, and pharmaceutical compounds.

As American citizens, we want to continue to press for more tough laws referring to the quality of the water we drink. Although some cities are providing their voters with water that exceeds current standards of sanitation, we need to keep on making our demands until every city in our country has a portable water system that is offering the best possible water to its purchasers.
