Ways The Recession And Loss Of Jobs Has Caused Many Americans To Apply For Jobs That They Are overqualified For

With so many people being laid off over the past couple of years, many of them are trying to find any type of jobs that they can even though they are often very overqualified. The amount of people applying for low paying jobs has shocked many people with hundreds of applicants showing up for a minimum wage seasonal jobs that used to be reserved for high school teenagers. This article describes a few examples of people who are qualified in one area such as a former computer technician and consultant that are working odd jobs doing ipod screen repair or iphone screen repair to pay the bills.

The home building and construction business has hit rock bottom with the real estate market being the worst off it has ever been. People are not buying homes but losing them instead and this has greatly affected those in the home building business. It is not uncommon to see a top construction builder of custom houses trying to do any kind of handyman jobs in order to pay the bills. Many are just trying to get work by soliciting door to door seeing if anyone needs anything repaired on their home.

Another example of this is the amount of cutbacks school districts have had to make reagarding its teaching staff. What was once considered a secure reliable job has now resulted in tenured teachers without jobs for the first time in their careers. Teachers that have masters degrees and years of experience are being fired due to their salary requirements that are too expensive for the district to afford and this is causing some of them to be paid minimum wage caring for babies at a child care rather than teaching in their specific area of education.

Americans that used to work in the car industry have also been greatly affected by the economy with many of their offices shutting down and thousands of lay offs happening. Some of these workers were expereinced managers of a dealership for a couple of decades making a comfortable salary for themselves and their families and today are left trying to find the most basic, lowest of paying jobs that may be available. It is not uncommon to see former car industry executives now waiting on tables at a restaurant or as the check out person at a retail store to make ends meet.

Because there are so such a large number of people applying for every single job opening, that has made it very hard for the younger generation of workers to be hired for any type of employment. What used to be considered jobs for high school students or recent college grads are now being taken by applicants with more education and experience taking away the opportunity to work for the younger people. One example of this is at the hiring day for seasonal jobs working at King’s Island amusement park in Cincinnati, there were thousands of people applying for low paying seasonal jobs that once attracted mostly teenagers and college kids.
