Fighting The Middle Aged Spread

When a person hits forty, it seems that a lot of things begin to change. We can’t see as well as we used to. We wake up every morning with aches and pains that have not been felt before. Food we used to eat easily now keeps us awake at night. And the use of the bathroom seems to have changed drastically. The most notable change to our bodies is the increasing size of our gut. We try to disguise by calling it other less painful names, such as middle-aged spread, and love handles. But it is something that no one looks forward to seeing in the mirror everyday. Most people long to find a way to get rid of it. If a person starts to work on the middle aged spread before they reach middle age, it is easier to develop the work effort to keep it from ever appearing.


What should a person do to fight the extra pounds that are appearing on their body? One way that has been around for years is to create a daily exercise regimen that includes such things as jogging, aerobics, and six pack ab exercises. To be successful, a person must create a fitness regimen that can be followed. A person needs to find the desire to make a routine work, if they don’t then the plan will fail. If a person doe not follow some type of plan and just does exercises when they think about it, the routine is doomed. A fitness routine consists of a list of exercises and how many and for how long they should be done. It doesn’t matter whether you exercise in a gym or at home. How much a person chooses to spend to workout is completely up to them. But if the goal is to beat the middle aged spread, then a person has to get up and get moving. The gut will never disappear if all you do is watch other people working out on the television. Doing some type of exercise is a better way to lose weight then doing nothing at all.



Another part of dropping the middle aged girth is to watch what you eat. It seemed like it didn’t matter what we used fill ourselves up with in the past, we never gained weight. As you get older it seems that everything you eat is immediately added to your waist. A person must watch what they eat and eat healthier. Eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and try to eat at normal mealtimes. Avoid the urge of the midnight munchies by making sure you eat three meals a day. By not skipping meals, a person will learn that they actually eat less and seem to fill up faster. When you eat smaller portions of healthier food, it is much easier to lose the weight. It is not the best thing to do if all you want is to lose weight fast, but it is the way that works the best over the long haul.



In addition to watching what you eat and working out more, a person should find others to talk about their weight issues with. You will be much more successful when you enlist the support of others instead of fighting the battle by yourself. If you can’t find enough support from friends or family, then check out the internet for a discussion group such as The biggest loser forum. You can learn a lot from people who are also trying to get healthy and have encountered similar circumstances as yourself and have suggestions of how to get through the problems that you face.

In order to successfully lose the beer belly that has developed with middle age, a person must find the motivation and method and then they must find a way to stick with it. If those things can be accomplished then the beer belly won’t be to stubborn.
