Most people think that they know roulette and most of them would be mostly right, however there are so many things that people do not know about the wonderful game of roulette.
Most people do not know that the game of roulette was designed by accident by a French mathematician, the same mathematician who is known for introducing the calculator to the western world, his name, Blaise Pascal.
If you were to take a look at roulette in its early day you would find that it was seldom played at all, although it was wildly popular it was a game that only Europe’s rich could afford. Most people do not realize that the roulette tables they play on today were once not around, roulette tables with only one zero did not exist until 1843 which is when they were introduced in a small German town Homburg. Roulette was all the rage in Europe in the 1800’s so much that casinos started popping up all over the place and the competition got very fierce; it was this competition that lead to the innovation of the single zero wheel , casinos that could offer single zero wheels were able to gobble up tons of market share among players.
Because of that innovation the wheels in Europe still only have one zero. The change however never caught on in America, America never switched to the single zero wheel and to this day casinos in Las Vegas still mostly feature the double zero wheel. In the 1990’s more innovations were made when it came to roulette wheels, however these changes were made to make the wheels more random and to prevent any errors that would result in biases.
There have been numerous occasions in which a team of gamblers would observe roulette wheels, discover biases and then attack the casinos. The most recent example of this happening was as recent as 1982 when several British casinos lost incredible sums of money to a specific gang of American gamblers.
